Go Away

hey Stephanie, what did you do last weekend?

Oh, well, I had a great time. I soaked up some sun in the backyard. I went bike riding around town. I even bought a new swimsuit.
A new swimsuit? Oh, so you're assuming that summer will actually come. Given the evidence contrary to that idea, what makes you so confident?

Well, it has always come in the past. I know that this year winter seems to be like an unwanted guest lingering WAY past it's welcome, but I'm still hopeful for change.

Well, I admire your optimism. By the way, did you buy some boots and a coat to go with that swimsuit? Just curious.

Ahem--
Snow, snow go away.
Come again some other day.
Like next winter, perhaps.

(and yes--I did buy a new swimsuit this weekend. I'll have to show it to you all later. Right now I can't bear to look at it while the snowflakes are falling. It's just cruel.)

Spring in Colorado (and what I'll be doing this morning)

Dear people who live in temperate climates:
Right now you're probably rising up to enjoy a cup of coffee on your patio, soaking in the morning sun. Can you smell the flowers blooming all around you? And the scent of fresh green floating through the air?

Can you?

Because I want you to know that I can't smell any of those things.
Why? Because here is where I live. In case you missed it, the date is March 24th, and this is Colorado. And the two photos above were taken from my driver's seat last night.
And this is the view from my back door this morning.
Now, in case you've never experienced a spring snow storm (because instead you're lying in the beach getting a tan), let me tell you a few things you should know.

First, the snow is HEAVY. Very, very heavy. So you can think of me as I'm trying to heave piles of it off my driveway this morning with a shovel.

Second, in addition to the shoveling I'll have to take a tour through my yard knocking all of the snow off the trees and shrubs. Because HEAVY snow breaks branches.
And all of this effort will make me a) exhausted and b) sore. And then when it's all finished, the sun will come out and melt everything that's left by tomorrow.
Because that's just how it is in spring in Colorado.

So, people of temperate climates who are going to work right now wearing skirts and sandals--be thankful. Because I have to go put my boots on now and lift hundreds of pounds of wet snow.

I just thought you should know...

Sincerely,
stephanie

Snow Day

Today is a snow day for us Coloradoans. Currently the white stuff is falling down in buckets (does it snow in buckets, or is that just rain?), and I’m trying to avoid shoveling the driveway for as long as possible, which admittedly isn’t a great strategy when it comes to snow removal...

The weather, of course, threatens to put a serious damper on Halloween festivities, but it does make for excellent holiday inspiration. And since I’m currently working on some holiday DIY projects, this snowy day is a perfect fit to get me into the mood.

Later today (Yay!) I’ll be listing my first ever project download for purchase in my online store, so I thought that I would give you all a sneak peak by sharing a few photos with you. These pictures, plus the winter wonderland outside, make me want to cuddle down with a soft blanket, some hot tea, and a good book.

That is, after all, what snow days are for.

Stay tuned for more details about my store,
and come back tomorrow as we pick up on this week’s Be An Original theme: exploring who we want to be!
