I have a confession to make: I don’t really like to cook that much.  So why, you might wonder, do I have a whole section devoted to food?  Well...because I DO like to take photos of food, and I DEFINITELY have a sweet tooth.  And yes--I suppose I do appreciate a good, home-cooked meal and writing about it motivates me to actually use my kitchen every now and then.

That said, below are some common questions I get about food and cooking:

Do you take your own food photos?
Yes--as well as 90% of the photos you see everywhere on my blog.  As far as I’m concerned, “pretty” is one of the primary reasons I’ll even make a dish.  It could be nutritionally bankrupt and taste like sand, but if it’s pretty, it will probably make it onto my site!

Does your husband love all the sweets your make?
Um...sadly, no.  He does not have a sweet tooth (something hopefully our offspring will inherit), thus leaving me to consume the majority of the baked goods in our home.

On that subject--how do you stay so thin when you’re always making those scrumptious desserts?
In a word--genetics.  Slimness runs in my family.  Furthermore, though I do enjoy a delightful baked treat, I’m also a very moderate eater.  So just because I post photos of a dozen cinnamon-bun-beauties doesn’t mean that I eat them all in one afternoon!  Truth be told, at least half of what I bake gets tossed immediately into the freezer or carted to a church potluck.
Do you have any cookbooks you’d recommend?
Well, yes, actually: I LOVE Ellie Krieger’s Foods You Crave.  Most of my favorite recipes come from her fresh and healthy ideas.  I also like MyRecipes.com, and anything dessert-related from Martha Stewart.

Do you have any books about food you’d recommend?
Again, yes.  I’ve really enjoyed Michael Pollan’s Omnivore’s Dilemma and Barbara Kingsolver’s Animal, Vegetable, Miracle.  They’ve both inspired me to grow a bit of my own fruits and veggies in my small yard, which helps to balance out all of the baking....

Is it true that you cook several months of food all at once?
Yes, it is true.  Usually every Fall I will dedicate a whole day (or several days) to cooking casseroles, pastas, soups, pot pies, etc. and load up my freezer with them.  These meals always take us through the holidays and into early winter so that I don't have to worry about cooking too much during a busy season.

Finally: does your urine smell like asparagus after you eat it?
Yes.  Yes it does.
