One of the first steps of my winter office makeover is to figure out what to do with the feature wall, and I need your help! Please vote your favorite design from the SEVEN options below (or add your own idea) by submitting your comment here!
We're starting with the most conservative here, so option 1 is to add some thin molding to the walls following a traditional pattern of rectangles, with a small headband and chair rail.
I think I've decided that I want salmon to be my signature color (painted over a deep tan), although grayish-blue is also in the running. Here, option 2 spruces up the molding with some splashes of solid color.
And now we get fancy.... This option is a pattern of retro circles stenciled in stripes onto the wall.
Option 4 includes the same circle motif, only this time it is paired with the molding.
Option 5 just substitutes the circles with a bolder herringbone pattern.
Option 6 is what I would call my "chandelier" design, and you can see that it includes a little molding.
Finally, option 7 shows the chandelier pattern with the complete molding design.
So...what do you like best? Help me to decide by posting your comment below! I appreciate all of your thoughts and suggestions, and would love to get painting this next week!

I'm kind of drawn to option 5, with the herringbone!
ReplyDeleteI like option 3 best....and then also option 5. And I'd definitely choose the salmon over the blueish gray! (Just because blue/gray seems to be THE trend--at least here in LA--at the moment. Might as well be a little different!) Happy painting! --Alli
ReplyDeleteThanks for your input, ladies! I'm hoping for a few more votes before I get started!
ReplyDeleteI like option 7. It has the simplicity of option 1 but then kicks it into contemporary with the chandelier design. I wouldn't wimp out on the molding--make it a little thicker, maybe 150% of the scale you have pictured. I'd also suggest keeping the contrast low to avoid overpowering the room. The moldings could be in contrasting color and then do the chandelier pattern in the same color as the wall but but in a satin or gloss base paint.
ReplyDeleteWow! Great suggestions!--sounds like you really know your design! Thanks--
ReplyDeleteI like 3 and 6 - they are so interesting but not too much. I love the idea of the chandelier design! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, kerri. So far that makes 2 votes for #3, and 2 votes for the chandelier design (albeit in 2 different ways). Any more suggestions before I make my final decision and break out the paint?
ReplyDeleteI like option #3 the best. I kind of think it is a little busy with the pattern and the molding in some of the other options...:)
ReplyDeleteI vote option 7, but I agree with anonymous on the molding. I think you could come on a bit stronger with the molding without overpowering your design. Can't wait to see it materialize!
ReplyDeleteI vote for option 2. The blocks of solid color feel calm but fresh. And I love the idea of salmon!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nicky and Brooke for your input! I definitely think salmon is the winning color... Now if only you would all agree on the options... how am I ever going to choose!?
ReplyDeleteI love option 4 and 7
ReplyDeleteOption 7! It's the bee's knees!
ReplyDeletealright, ladies...option 7 seems to be pulling ahead in the race... I guess I better start figuring out how to pull off some of these designs!
ReplyDeleteHello everyone! I'm here to announce that I've finally made a decision! I have appreciated all of your input, and have selected option #3 as my final choice. Not only did several of you like that design, but it is one of the simpler techniques to execute and it coordinates really well with my new chandelier lighting! Stay tuned for updates!
