Project Plans

Since the summer is formally wrapping up, I am preparing for my seasonal home design swap and project list.

Here are a few things I'll be working on to ease myself (and my home/wardrobe) into cooler days:


I'll be using these fabrics to change all of the throw pillows and blankets in my main living room. I love the varied patterns (houndstooth, plaid, lattice, lace) and seasonal colors. I'll make sure to post photos of the finished projects once they're complete!


This is the basket next to my bed. I have, for the record, three other baskets around the house that look similar to this, but that's another story. This basket contains some of my fall "yarns in waiting" and half-finished sock projects. I have my work cut out for me...


I'm also planning on undertaking the rather ambitious challenge of sewing a new quilted coverlet for my king-size bed. I'll be using these fabric swatches (and many, many others), in shades of rust and smoke. Seems fall appropriate, doesn't it?


All of the patching together will probably take me a lifetime, but maybe some caffeine and sewing-while-movie-viewing will speed the process.


Speaking of sewing, I need to make a dress for a fall wedding, and am trying to decide on the color... Steel gray? Rose petal pink? Smoky charcoal? The debate continues...


I've also been making a lot of jewelry lately, but have definitely started moving more toward earthy fall tones, like these espresso wooden beaded earrings I made this week.


They'll be raffled off tomorrow, so soon they'll adorn someone else's fall ensemble.


Finally, I've got yarn plans, people. Yarn plans. I want to knit a few pillows shams because it seems like a fabulously comfy texture for fall. And I've started yet another cardigan, only this time in tweedy dusty rose.

As you can see, I am going to be very busy as the sun sets on summer and autumn rolls in.

Just the way I like it.

Five Things I'm Loving this Friday

It is a cloudy Friday, so my end-of-the-summer plans to lounge by the pool soaking up rays while reading books suddenly looks a little gray.

But I'm not worried. I have other things to tickle my fancy. Here are five things I'm loving on this cloudy Friday afternoon:


These earrings, which I'm raffling off today. I love the fresh green color, don't you? They'll be a reminder of summer during the whole year!


These strawberry cupcakes With strawberry frosting. I had a hankering for them when I saw a photo of a similar sugary delight on a blog last week. So I consulted Martha, and found a recipe. After a few modifications and a lot of licking the frosting beaters, I now have strawberry goodness to last all week!


These vintage fashions. Oh how I wish I was born in a bygone era... (for more info and links on these dresses, click here.)


This cardigan I'm knitting with fervor. Yes, it is probably the fifth cardigan I've tried, and yes, all of the others were disasters. But what can I say? I'm shamelessly hopeful that this is the The One that will turn out.


And these socks, which I just finished. Didn't I tell you that summer was a great time to knit--if not wear--socks? They're complete in plenty of time for fall weather!

Creative Hour: Golden Dangles

I must be in the jewelry making spirit lately, since I keep find myself oogling over beads and stringing them onto wires.

These latest two pairs of earrings reflect my growing fondness for yellow lately.

Creative Hour: Turquoise Earrings

I haven't posted a Creative Hour post in awhile, so I thought I would upload these photos of a recent jewelry project. These faux turquoise earrings were simple to make, and a great summer accessory!

This particular set will be raffled off this week to my newsletter subscribers (hint: I raffle off gifts weekly...), so I won't be sporting their style. But the creative part is half the reward for me anyway!
